What’s saving me right now
Every year at the half point of winter Anne Bogel from The Modern Mrs. Darcy complies a list of both the small and big things that are saving her life. She always invites readers to join in, and while I’ve loved the idea, I’ve never taken the time to sit down and figure out what my list would look like. This winter, however, has been a little crazy. Work has been stressful, I often don’t see the sun with my current schedule, and a slew of other ups and downs that have me a little flustered. This seemed like the perfect year to take the time to think about those things that are actually saving me right now. Below is my list of the things (both big and small) that are saving me right now!
La Croix – As I work to consume less sugar and pop, La Croix has been the perfect pick me up in the middle of the day. I still get the carbonation and a great flavor just with out the sugar crash that follows a pop. I’ve been loving the peach-pear flavor the most right now!
Ultra Fine point sharpies/pens – This one might seem really silly, but to keep everything straight with my to-do lists (which have been getting a little out of hand) I write a ton of things down. I use my phone for lists but there’s something about writing it down that makes me feel better and there’s nothing I like writing with more than a fine point sharpie/pen (especially if it’s in a fun color). Just the way the pen moves across the paper calms me down, weird, but whatever works, lol.
Yoga – I started practicing yoga this month, and I’m already loving not only the increased flexibility and help with recovery from my long runs, but I’m enjoying that this class (unlike weights) let’s me clear my mind a little more and calm down.
The Bookstagram community – I recently set up a second Instagram account to more fully join in the bookstagram community with out driving my friends nuts, and I’ve loved every minute of connecting with like minded individuals. It’s been a fun creative outlet, and I’ve already “met” some wonderful people. Check out @runoutofpages if you want to follow my book/fitness journey.
New rain boots – I’ve been trying to buy a pair of rain boots that are stylish and easy to walk around in for over a year. I tried Hunters and they were way too tight on my calves, and I had bought another previous pair that ended up being too big shoe-size wise when they were big enough to fit my calves (so I gave those to my niece). I finally found a pair that look great, actually fit me, and are super comfortable. It makes the rainy, gray weather NYC is having so much better (Thanks mom and dad for the great Christmas present!).
Push-up Challenge – I’m participating in a push up challenge that Candace Cameron Bure (DJ from Full House) and her trainer set up. 50 push ups a day for 360 days this year makes 18,000 push ups done by the end of the year. It’s been a really nice measurable skill that I can tell I’m getting better at even when the rest of my work out doesn’t feel so great.
Stranger Things/Stranger Things 2 – I know, I know, Jeff and I are super late to the game, but we’re currently on episode 6 of season 2 and we can’t believe we’ve waited this long to watch it. I’m loving the male friendships, the kick ass girls, and all the great 80s music.
